Tomorrow there will be a Sunday Calendar feature on CAMD in the LA Times as well as a review in the San Francisco Chronicle. This is the first time the SF Chron has reviewed one of my books. It was worth the wait. The two also offer a contrast between photography at a flattering angle with really great lighting and….Well.

Wow. I am so overwhelmed and grateful for the press this book has received. I think (hope) it means that parents are really fed up with the increasingly narrow choice of feminine images that are presented to our ever-younger daughters. I hope this also raises the profile and helps the great work of Girls Leadership Institute, SPARK, Project Girl, Pigtail Pals, Hardy Girls Healthy Women, Girl Scouts, Girls, Inc., The Geena Davis Institute and all the advocates working on behalf of girls! Myla Goldberg (a fellow Obie and novelist I adore, though have never met her) reviewed CAMD on Slate. Another Obie (again, younger–never met) Liz Logan, interviewed me for Make it Better, a publication serving Chicago’s North Shore communities. She’s also doing a piece for the Oberlin Alumni Magazine which is the coolest thing EVER! And maybe just one teen-tiny notch down from being profiled for my college’s alum [...]

Just in case you’re interested in why I wrote my book: roughly half of 6-9 year olds regularly wear lipstick or gloss; the percentage of 9-12 year olds wearing mascara or eyeliner has doubled since 2008. 8-12 year old girls now spend $24 million a year on makeup. No wonder Walmart has just launched a new makeup line just for them–with anti-aging properties!!! Here’s a link to a “Good Morning America” story.
